"Mr. Kaul works at the Nuffield Hospital Leeds, where I was a private patient. My Aortic Valve Stenosis had been diagnosed in Nepal (cardiologist Dr. Bharat Rawat) who recommended elective surgery. This diagnosis was confirmed in Leeds by Dr. Paul Silverton, who did an angiogram and also found one artery was narrowing and needed a graft. Mr Kaul briefed me and my wife and 11 year old son beforehand, talking through what would happen in a gentle and encouraging way. Because I was over 60, a bovine replacement valve was chosen. The surgery was successful, but a day after being moved to intensive care, an arrhythmia developed, leading to control using Amiodarone, and a longer stay in intensive care than would be usual. Mr Kaul visited frequently, even in the middle of the night. I am really pleased with the outcome, and now three months later am fit and healthy apart from a shoulder strain arising from lifting too much too soon (I was warned!). A follow up echo has confirmed that my valve is performing excellently with no leakages, my cardiologists confirming that excellent surgery was carried out."
